Responding to Diversity – Delivering Inclusive Aged Care Services

  • Mecure Port of Echuca 465 High Street Echuca, VIC (map)

This interactive workshop equips people working in CHSP-funded aged care with the practical skills to deliver inclusive, person-centred care that meets the diverse needs of older Australians.

Participants will explore how diversity shapes older people’s identity and experience, and why recognising and responding to diversity is essential for fair, respectful and inclusive care.

The session also unpacks intersectionality in action—how overlapping aspects of identity can influence care experiences and contribute to compounding barriers.

What we’ll cover

Using a diversity and person-centred lens, the session will explore:

  • The Diversity Jigsaw – understanding the breadth of client diversity and how it shapes values, identity and care needs

  • The 2024 Aged Care Act – with a focus on diversity recognition and response

  • The strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards – highlighting trauma-aware, person-centred and culturally safe care

  • The 12 Diversity Characteristics in the Aged Care Diversity Framework – and their influence on access and experience

  • The Specialisation Verification Framework – its role in ensuring equitable, high-quality care for older people from diverse backgrounds.

Through real-world case studies, reflective discussion and group activities, participants will build confidence and capability in recognising and responding to diversity in aged care.
