Workforce Screening and Registration

Overview

The current screening process checks a person’s criminal history and work-related misconduct to make sure they’re suitable to work with older people.

Right now, screening requirements vary. They may either involve the NDIS worker screening check or a police check.

The Department is working to introduce a more robust screening process, aligned with the NDIS worker screening check. This new process won’t start before mid-2026.

They’re also working on recognising Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (Ahpra) registration as part of aged care worker screening in future reforms.

Applies to Registration Categories: 1-6
