This full-day, in-person workshop for First Nations aged care providers has been developed in consultation with Aunty Vicki Walker – our First Nations Advisor.
Why this matters
Trauma-aware and healing-informed practice recognises that trauma can have a profound and lasting impact on how a person feels, thinks, behaves and relates to others.
The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety identified this approach as something we need more of in aged care. It’s now reflected in:
The new Aged Care Act
The strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards
The Statement of Rights
What this workshop offers
This workshop has been created for Aboriginal aged care providers. It recognises that many workers already support older people who have experienced trauma. These workers have deep expertise rooted in community, culture and care.
Together, through yarning and listening, we’ll create a culturally safe space to:
Reflect on the strengths already in your work and community
Explore how your current practices align with trauma-aware and healing-informed care
Understand how this connects with the language and expectations of aged care regulators.
Who Should Attend
This workshop is for staff working in First Nations aged care providers such as team leaders, co-ordinators, managers, social support and transport workers and clinicians.
Cost
This workshop is offered at no cost to CHSP and Support at Home-funded First Nations organisations.
