Brochure for a professional printer

Add your details, then have a professional printer print it edge to edge.

Before you start

To add your details to the brochure, you need three things:

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader on a computer. It’s free from Adobe’s website. Save the file to your computer, then right-click it and choose Open with > Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • Your logo in its RGB version, as a PNG or JPG. Logo files are usually labelled RGB or CMYK in the file or folder name. If you’re not sure which you have, use a PNG. A logo on a white or transparent background looks best.
  • Your organisation’s name, address and phone number, written the way you want Elders and families to see them.
Add your details to the brochure

You only need to do this once. Save your copy and print from it whenever you need more.

  1. Download elder-care-brochure-inhouse-fillable.pdf and open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader. Adding your logo won’t work if the brochure opens in a web browser.
  2. Find the blue box under “Call or visit your Elder Care Support team” on the left-hand page of the first sheet.
  3. Click the white box that says “Click here to add your logo” and choose your logo file.
  4. Click the line under the logo box and type your organisation’s name.
  5. Press Tab and type your street address. Press Tab again and type your suburb, state and postcode.
  6. Press Tab and type your phone number.
  7. Save the file with a new name, such as “Elder Care Support brochure – [your organisation].pdf”.

The text size is fixed. If your text is cut off, you’ve reached the character limit for that field. Shorten it, for example “Ltd” instead of “Limited”.

If your logo won’t load or you see “Error reading JPeg file”, you may have chosen the print (CMYK) version of your logo. Use the RGB version, or open it in any image program and save a copy as PNG.

Print the brochure in your office

The brochure prints on one A4 sheet, both sides, and folds in half to A5. Choose these settings in the print window:

SettingChoose
PaperA4
SizeActual size (not “Fit” or “Shrink”)
SidesDouble-sided
FlipFlip on short edge (sometimes called short-edge binding)
ColourColour

The white border around the edge is part of the design. Office printers can’t print right to the edge of the paper.

Print one test copy first. Fold it in half with Uncle Brian on the front cover. Open it. If the inside pages are upside down, change the flip setting to the other edge and try again.

Standard copy paper works. Heavier paper, around 120 gsm, folds more neatly and feels more like a printed brochure. Crease the fold firmly with the cover facing out.

No Acrobat Reader? Use a label

Print the brochure without filling it in, using the same settings. Then print your logo and details on a sticky label and stick it over the blue box.

Label size: 99.1 × 57 mm. These are usually sold as 10 labels per A4 sheet and fit inside the box, with blue showing either side.

Use a professional printer for an edge-to-edge finish

File: elder-care-brochure-professional-printer-fillable.pdf

A professional printer can print the colour right to the edge, with no white border. Use this option for larger numbers or a more finished look.

  1. Download the professional printer version of the brochure and add your logo and details to the last page, the same way as above.
  2. Save it and send it to the printer.
  3. Tell them: “A4 folded to A5, four pages, full colour both sides, with 3 mm bleed. Please flatten the form fields before printing.”
  4. Ask for a proof and check your details before they print the full run.

Ask for matt or silk paper.

Print and put up the posters

There are two poster designs, one with Aunty Cecily and one with Uncle Brian. Each comes in A3 and A4.

  • A3 is better on a wall or noticeboard, if your printer takes A3 paper. Otherwise use A4.
  • Print at actual size, one side, in colour. The white border is part of the design.
  • Put them where people wait, at a height someone sitting down can read easily.

The posters don’t carry your contact details. They tell people to ask at reception. Make sure everyone on your front desk knows who to send people to when they ask about Elder Care Support.
