Q – If someone has a referral code from MAC, is this considered an assessment?
We have a few clients that have not had a formal MAC assessment but have received a transport referral code after phoning MAC while they await their assessment.
Would this be considered “assessed as eligible for CHSP services”? The client has been assessed by the MAC Contact Centre as being eligible for service hence receiving the referral code?
A – No, this is not considered an assessment.
My Aged Care is the entry point where registration is completed.
This includes screening the person for eligibility for an assessment. (The screening and registration process is not part of the assessment.)
Referral is made via the Single Assessment System (SAS) for an assessment.
The SAS assessor conducts an assessment to determine eligibility for services, support needs and the most appropriate program stream. They provide referral codes for each service the person is eligible for.
If the person is provided with a referral code by MAC Contact Centre staff, this is only temporary while they await assessment via the SAS organisation.

Access to urgent services
My Aged Care can only refer a client directly to a CHSP provider (without an assessment) if they need immediate health or safety intervention that is unavailable through other means. These services may include nursing, personal care, meals, grocery shopping and transport (page 6).
