Social Support Groups

Overview

Social support groups offer older people a safe, inclusive space to stay connected, build friendships and engage in meaningful activities. Delivered by CHSP-funded aged care providers, these group-based programs support wellbeing by reducing social isolation and promoting independence.

We’re making it happen – and we need your input.

Have you:

  • Booked a great guest speaker who was free or affordable?

How a Lifestyle Coordinator brought Cognitive Stimulation Therapy to her Social Support Groups

We caught up with Tracey Frochot, Lifestyle Coordinator at Bendigo Health, to talk about her experience introducing Cognitive Stimulation Therapy to her organisation’s social support groups.

Tracey attended one of our Cognitive Stimulation Therapy for Social Support Groups workshops. She took what she learned in the workshop and applied it immediately.

Videos filmed by people who work in Social Support

These wonderful videos were created by people working in social support groups. Filmed on their phones, each video is a snapshot of the creativity and heart at the centre of social support.

The videos were made after a hands-on workshop with the SSD Connect Alliance and Red Hat FilmsCapturing Stories with Your Phone.

They’ve since been used by CHSP providers to promote their programs, and have been shared at AGMs and events. Filming was not only a way to capture stories – it became a fun, engaging activity for both staff and social support group members.
