Q: Do I need a My Aged Care code before starting urgent services?

A: Always try to get a code first.

Contact My Aged Care to request a referral if there’s an immediate risk to health or safety.

Examples of urgent CHSP services:

  • nursing for wound care

  • transport to specialist medical appointments

  • meal delivery

  • personal care

  • support due to carer absence (e.g. flexible respite).

If the situation is urgent and there’s a significant risk of harm:

  • you can begin services before a code is issued

  • the person must be registered with My Aged Care

  • you have 5 days to formalise the referral.

This aligns with the CHSP 2025-27 Manual and Aged Care Act requirements.
