Q: Do I need a My Aged Care code before starting urgent services?
A: Always try to get a code first.
Contact My Aged Care to request a referral if there’s an immediate risk to health or safety.
Examples of urgent CHSP services:
nursing for wound care
transport to specialist medical appointments
meal delivery
personal care
support due to carer absence (e.g. flexible respite).
If the situation is urgent and there’s a significant risk of harm:
you can begin services before a code is issued
the person must be registered with My Aged Care
you have 5 days to formalise the referral.
This aligns with the CHSP 2025-27 Manual and Aged Care Act requirements.
